Description
2003 Sea Ray Sundancer 260 “Skip Jack” — Project Boat / Repower Opportunity
A well-designed 28′ Sea Ray express cruiser with a very good cabin interior, no known hull damage, and significant potential for a buyer looking for a repower or restoration project. Engine replacement and inspection/repair of affected mechanical and electrical systems will be required.
The 2003 Sea Ray 260 Sundancer was designed as a versatile express cruiser that combines a spacious cockpit and extended swim platform with overnight accommodations, a galley, enclosed head and sleeping areas below deck.
With an overall length of 28 feet including the factory extended swim platform, an 8’6″ beam, approximately 6,200-lb dry weight, and 19-degree deadrise, the 260 Sundancer provides considerably more cruising accommodations than its manageable size might suggest.
Sea Ray designed the cockpit for both cruising and entertaining. Factory features of the 260 Sundancer included an extended swim platform with concealed stainless-steel boarding ladder, large transom storage area, helm seating and a versatile portside seating arrangement that converts into a sun pad.
Below deck, the Sundancer layout provides a surprisingly substantial cabin for a boat in this size range. The original design includes a forward V-berth / lounge area that converts for sleeping, a separate mid-stateroom double berth, galley, enclosed head and multiple storage areas. Sea Ray also incorporated cherry-finish cabinetry and dedicated storage for the V-berth cushions and tables.
The factory galley arrangement includes a molded countertop with sink, refrigerator, microwave, stove and storage. Electrical and plumbing systems were designed around both 12-volt DC and shore-power operation.
Skip Jack is located in Hardeeville, South Carolina 29927, convenient to Savannah, Hilton Head Island and I-95 Exit 5.
Condition of Skip Jack
This vessel experienced partial submersion of the rear engine compartment. The MerCruiser engine is frozen / seized and should be considered non-operational and in need of replacement.
This boat is therefore being offered specifically as a project boat / repower opportunity for a buyer who understands that mechanical and electrical inspection, repair and replacement will be required before the vessel is returned to service.
Hull & Interior Condition
The cabin interior is in very good condition for its age and is one of the stronger aspects of this particular boat. Carpet is better than average and the cabin cushions are not ripped. The rear bunk cushions do need recovering and have tattered areas. The overhead material is of similar color with no sagging from moisture. The Counter is clean and microwave and lighting is in working condition at the time of this writing.
The head is clean and in working condition.
Hull & Exterior Condition
There is no known or seen hull damage. The visible fiberglass hull and gelcoat present well for the boat’s age, particularly considering that this vessel is being offered as a project boat. No major impact damage or hull deformation is known to the seller. We strongly suggest wash and polishing to bring back factory luster.
The boat retains its stainless-steel bow rail and deck hardware, bow pulpit / anchor arrangement, windshield and canvas enclosure, and hull-side cabin portlights.
The exterior cockpit cushions remain supple but show sun exposure and age-related cosmetic deterioration. The bimini / canvas has no known holes and remains usable; however, the canvas zippers need replacement and the aged / darkened isinglass should be replaced.
Buyers are encouraged to inspect the vessel personally or retain a qualified marine surveyor.
Engine & Drive
This boat is equipped with the fuel-injected MerCruiser power package:
Engine: MerCruiser 5.0L MPI
Horsepower: 260 HP
Drive: Bravo III Stern Drive
Fuel: Gasoline
The 5.0L MPI is the 260 HP fuel-injected engine, not the lower-horsepower carbureted version.
The engine is frozen / seized and was not pickled following the partial engine-compartment submersion. The engine should be considered non-operational and in need of replacement.
The Bravo III stern drive is included with the vessel. Its condition and operation should be professionally inspected by the buyer.
Mechanical & Electrical Inspection Required
Because water entered the rear engine compartment, the buyer should assume that all systems and components that may have been affected require professional inspection before use.
This includes, but is not limited to, the engine and accessories, Bravo III stern drive, transom assembly, engine wiring and electrical connections, batteries and charging system, fuel system, controls and cables, bilge pumps, steering system, trim and tilt system, exhaust system, fire-suppression equipment, and other mechanical or electrical components located in or connected to the affected area.
No representation is being made that these systems or related components are operational unless specifically stated otherwise.
